Start with the signal

Stress often shows up before we have language for it. You may notice tightness in your body, a shorter temper, racing thoughts, avoidance, fatigue, or the feeling that ordinary tasks are suddenly too much. The first step is not to fix everything. The first step is to notice the signal without judging it.

Use a two-minute reset

Pause what you are doing if it is safe to do so. Put both feet on the floor. Take one slower breath than usual. Name three things you can see, two things you can feel, and one thing you can hear. This does not make the stress disappear, but it can help your nervous system move from alarm toward choice.

Sort what is urgent from what is loud

Write down the concern in one sentence. Then ask: does this need action today, can it wait, or do I need support before deciding? Stress can make everything feel equally urgent. Sorting the next step helps reduce the pressure to solve the whole situation at once.

Choose one support action

A useful next step might be booking counselling, taking a short break, asking for clarification, moving one task, drinking water, or texting someone safe. Choose one action that is realistic in the next 10 minutes. Small support is still support.
